Crossing borders: two beatmakers from Berlin joined high tea with The Hidden aka Dan MacRae from Southampton. Check out what these three dudes brewed on their five track EP full of dusty beats and chilled triphop vibes.

Stereofox said "Yeah this isn’t your average Lo-fi track with just a sample and drums layered underneath… I genuinely appreciated the musicality brimming all throughout „3:30pm“ as the progression made for an exquisite listening experience. If you’re into artists like Flitz&Suppe or even Devaloop, this’ll be a treat for you."

rocomoco + The Hidden – the story behind:

“3:30pm“ stands for the english afternoon tea. A lean back moment of the day. A chilled time to recreate and to let the thoughts fly. In case of this EP thoughts can fly in many directions…

The Hidden is an always evolving private collection of lo-fi recordings, musical ideas and visual experiments by the artist Dan McRae from Southampton (GB). He is a hidden gem operating under the radar. You will find collages of orchestral recordings featured in a video of the japanese skateboard mag “VHS-MAG“ and some lo-fi beats being released on tapes by the “Super Secret Lo-fi Beat Collective“.

rocomoco are two producers from Berlin on a journey into lofi hiphop. The few tracks they have released so far have been picked by IndieShuffle, MrSuicideSheep, The Cozycollective, Steezyasfuck, Stereofox, Czech Vibes, Give it a spin and by the labels Dust Collectors, Orikami Records and now by Aviary Bridge Records. Their most famous track “floating“ reached top 20 in the hypemachine charts and received more than 1 Mio streams driven by curated playlists like Beatstrumentals and The Lounge on Apple Music.

rocomoco and The Hidden first met literally by accident. It all began in April 2018 when one member of rocomoco broke his thumb from skiing. That decelerates him immediately and opened up some extra time to explore the ocean of vibes on SoundCloud again and he discovered Dan McRae asking for collaboration in the description of one of his tracks. That led rocomoco into producing a quick remix of “A Sunday Morning Hangover With Spring In The Air (dope mix)“. A cute lo-fi beat full of positive reggae vibes and the drunken happyness of the first warm days of spring. They called it “dope mix“ due to the fact that the one with the broken thumb was filled up with painkillers while creating it. A second version of this track will be released on the new EP under the title “How Is Your Karma?“

Afterwards the three dudes ran into exchanging musical ideas and worked on many tracks for more than a year. They got lost in translation, wrote zillions of mails and messages aiming to reach a new quality of music they asumed (and still asuming) they could be able to touch. British eccentricity met german detail lovers and perfectionists who considered and reconsidered almost everything. Three bullheads crossing borders while celebrating their anti brexit. Dan needed to be patient but he was really commited – even to the point that he took a plane to join some mixing sessions in Berlin! To complicate things and to keep Dan busy rocomoco asked for a visual identity which extended communication and complexity into the field of visual and audiovisual content for each track. They couldn’t stop until every peace of content was in line with the red thread: the imagination of an afternoon tea taken in a small cottage by the sea.
